A Message from Emily
Spring is *finally* here and we are so excited for all that’s ahead on the social calendar. The Northwest Chamber has been very busy with planning both our monthly happy hours and lunches but also, our big Annual events!
We are happy to share that the Farmers Market will kick off on Wednesday, June 1. Come see us between 3:00-7:00 at the Hilton Garden Inn for local purchases, delicious hot food options and a great time to see friends and neighbors.
We are also getting ready to share the details on this year’s Crab Feast and Golfing Fore! Grants Charity Outing – so stay tuned!
A big thank you to everyone who has come out the last few weeks, our events have been selling out recently and the most fun has been getting to see you all out and about. I attended the first community meeting regarding the Baltimore County Government Police Accountability Board, a civilian panel charged with working with law enforcement and county officials to make recommendations to improve policing.
We must continue to work to improve openness, transparency, accountability and responsiveness across our government, including the police department. I’m confident this board will bring together the police and communities to further our efforts to promote and protect public safety, which has always been one of the top priorities of residents.
Under the state law passed last year, each county must have a police accountability board to:
-Hold quarterly meetings with heads of law enforcement agencies and otherwise work with law enforcement agencies and the county government to improve matters of policing;
-Appoint civilian members to charging committees and trial boards;
-Receive complaints of police misconduct filed by members of the public;
-On a quarterly basis, review outcomes of disciplinary matters considered by charging committees; and
-Submit an annual report that identifies any trends in the disciplinary process of police officers in the county and makes recommendations on changes to policy that would improve police accountability in the county.
