Important Updates about the Payroll Protection Program Funding

“On Monday (TODAY), SBA Lenders will begin taking applications again for the second round of funding for the Paycheck Protection Program.  Funding will be very limited so now is the time for businesses to start getting their applications ready for submission first thing on Monday morning.

The first round of funding was exhausted within less than two weeks and this second round is expected to go even faster since there are already businesses with applications in the queue.

COVID-19 testing Comes to Owings Mills

Beginning Monday, April 27th, the Baltimore County Department of Health will operate a walk-in clinic at the Liberty Family Resource Center on Mondays, and in partnership with the Maryland Department of Health, the County will operate a testing site at the Owings Mills Vehicle Emissions Inspection Program on Wednesdays and Fridays.

You MUST have an appointment as well as a referral from your doctor to be tested.

Unemployment’s New Website Has Launched

Self-Employed, 1099 Contractors and “Gig” Workers Can Now Apply 

The Maryland Department of Labor has launched a new unemployment insurance application called the Beacon One-Stop. This new application will allow all Marylanders to file all types of claims entirely online! This includes those who are eligible for regular benefits, CARES Act benefits, and individuals who were previously required to file by phone.

Small business owners impacted by COVID-19 are trying to determine their eligibility for the numerous state, local, and federal assistance programs being offered. That task has been made easier thanks to a new website: The Maryland Business Relief Wizard. This free online tool has been designed to streamline the evaluation process and connect businesses with the resources and programming for which they are eligible. To participate, simply visit the website, accept the Terms & Conditions, then complete the brief business questionnaire. You’ll receive a curated list of programs and resources that are relevant to your organization. Partners and contributors to the Business Relief Wizard include Howard County Economic Development Authority, Mindgrub, BTS Software Solutions, Maryland Department of Commerce, Howard County Chamber of Commerce, Maryland Tech Council, Maryland Chamber of Commerce, IBM, and various industry subject matter experts including KatzAbosch, Capital Services, and Offit Kurman Attorneys at Law. It will be updated regularly as new programs become available or existing programs change in availability.

By emergency proclamation of the Governor, the 2020 Presidential Primary Election has been postponed to June 2, 2020. The State Board of Elections submitted a comprehensive plan to the Governor on April 3, 2020, for the administration of this election. On April 10, 2020, the Governor issued a proclamation ratifying the plan adopted by the State Board of Elections.
